My heart is heavy and my eyes brim with tears. They have all day. Yesterday, a sweet friend lost her husband of 36 years to cancer. This morning, one of my most cherished friends in my life's journey said goodbye to her mother and watched as she slipped quietly beyond the thin veil. And as I write this, another friend, a beautiful woman who rocked and walked my first child and opened her home to me and other young women in Bible study because she had MS and couldn't go beyond the confines of her own stoop, lies on a hospice bed beckoning her last breath to come quickly so she might be free of pain.
And I read on this Easter Eve, "God weeps in our hearts."
God weeps in our hearts? Yes, the author writes, "but His tears are healing tears, springs of everlasting life, cleansing us, sustaining us, transforming us, giving us hope when everything seems hopeless, and assuring us that even in all our bewilderment, uncertainty, disillusionment, and ignorance, 'All manner of things shall be well,'" as Julian of Norwich wrote.
Indeed, because God IS love, love is always in the tears of things -- invincible but hidden, apparently powerless, yet reconciling all that is in heaven and all that is on earth.
Paul put it this way....
And through Him God was pleased to reconcile to Himself all things,
whether on earth or in heaven,
by making peace through the blood on His cross.
Colossians 1:20
Yes, he identifies with us, weeps in and with us, and in some mysterious way, reconciles ALL things to Himself.
And, my friends, that's a promise. You can bet Easter morning on it.
Just an ordinary moment...
